Most of the praise Stephen Curry gets usually has to do with his shooting and his place in history among three point shooters. It’s less common to see him get the headlines thanks to his all-around play. However, there’s a lot more to him than just shooting from long range, pulling off a triple-double performance that included a career high in rebounds and assists as the Golden State Warriors beat the Phoenix Suns 115-86.

It took Curry, scoring only 14 points on 5-of-17 shooting, only 23 minutes to get his second triple double of the season, one of only two players with more than one since the NBA season began. He grabbed 13 rebounds and 16 assists, finding himself helping the bigs in the paint a lot more than usual, and maybe finding himself a new hobby to make games a bit more interesting and less one dimensional.

Even without Curry’s shooting, this was the kind of game Mark Jackson dreamed of when the team started out the season. Klay Thompson couldn’t miss (9-of-11, 21 points), while Andrew Bogut and David Lee had no problem dominating in the paint against the Suns who rely on outside force in any case.

The Suns? They didn’t show up. It looked like they were slower in every fragment of the game, especially when it came to the guard play, which was always going to be the deciding factor. Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic combined to score only 15 points on 33.3% from the field, turning the ball over more times than they dished out assists.

Their guards did a great job. Obviously, Curry with the triple-double. He’s got a great feel for the game. Even Klay Thompson got in a lot of foul trouble and still ends up shooting 9-for-11. They did a nice job. I don’t know what it was. We were just a step slow to everything they did. They were a step faster than us, and we paid the price.

The Suns ere held to season lows in field goal percentage (36%) and from beyond the arc (17.4%). The Warriors opened their big lead in the second quarter and never looked back. Looking at point from the bench might be a bit deceiving, especially because of the very long period of garbage time played in the game, resulting in the inflated numbers.

A 29 point win? If this would have happened right at the start of the season, with the Warriors lining up to be one of the best in the West and the Suns headed towards tanking purgatory, this wouldn’t have surprised anyone. But now? The Suns were a consistent team, relying on the work ethic and speed of their guards, giving a lot of teams so much trouble. To see them fall so flat against the Warriors who have been having plenty of problems putting on consistent performances was quite shocking, but it does give a taste of how good the Warriors can be even without Andre Iguodala playing the all-can-do facilitator like he did before the injury.
