Chelsea FC Transfer Rumors – David Luiz to Barcelona or Bayern Munich

David Luiz

With the rumors of Jose Mourinho finding himself in somewhat of a financial pickle, selling David Luiz in January might not be such a far fetched idea, especially if the interest in the Brazilian player from the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich is serious.

According to the Bild, Bayern Munich would like to team up the Brazil internationals in their back line or at least in the team. Luiz was a target of transfer rumors and interest from Barcelona during the summer, pin pointed as one of the players Mourinho would like to try and get off the team after returning to Chelsea.

It hasn’t been a great season for Luiz so far – both in form and in staying healthy, but it’s hard to say anyone in the Chelsea back line should be proud of the work he’s done this season. Luiz actually performed quite well as a defensive midfielder, a role he filled quite nicely last season for Rafa Benitez in a few matches, and one he has recently returned to in the away draw against Arsenal and the recent 2-1 win over Liverpool.

Barcelona have shown plenty of interest in Luiz over the summer, but it’s been thought that Mourinho was against selling him to a club he absolutely loathes and has had quite a severe rivalry with since becoming the Chelsea manager in 2004, carrying on to his time with Inter and later as the Real Madrid manager.

However, if he is to bring in new signings, selling players is probably a must for him as Chelsea are trying to keep a balanced bank account with as little cash injections from Roman Abramovich as possible. Having Bayern Munich and Barcelona open a bidding war for the Brazilian might be an excellent way of filling up the coffers, while Mourinho thinks about what to do with Juan Mata, who might ask to leave himself very soon.
