Arsenal FC Transfer Rumors – Trying to Sign Diego Costa

Constantly talking about the need of another top striker on the team, Arsenal might be making a move for Diego Costa of Atletico Madrid in an attempt to sign the top scoring player in the Spanish La Liga in order to give themselves an advantage in the title race.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are rumored to be interested in the Brazilian-Spanish player, but Chelsea have made it clear it’s only a summer thing, while Arsenal might be looking for a more immediate move. It’s hard to believe Atletico Madrid, in the midst of a title hunt in Spain and still playing in the Champions League, are going to sell Diego Costa, unless they’re in serious financial trouble.

Costa is rumored to have a £32 million release clause in his contract, but as history tells us, a Spanish club can simply block the funds from entering their bank account if they really don’t want to sell a player. Costa himself might not be too keen on leaving to Arsenal as well considering how well he’s been doing this season (19 goals, 17 appearances) and the chance of winning a championship with Atletico, something that hasn’t happened since 1996.

Arsenal have Olivier Giroud who started the season strongly but without a solid rotation, it seemed like he’s been worn out in recent week. The return of Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski does give Arsenal the option to slightly rest him, with Nicklas Bendtner proving to be a worthy option off the bench as well. However, Costa is much better than the Dane and is a true striker unlike Walcott and Podolski. Arsenal have the money to spend on him – but the two questions that remain is whether or not Wenger believes his current team is good enough to finish on top of the Premier League and if Atletico Madrid have any intention on selling their player.
