Even though Manchester United manager David Moyes has mentioned a time or two that he isn’t going to be signing anyone in January, there are a number of reports linking the club to a possible attempt to sign Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal.
Both of them?! According to the Daily Mail, that’s exactly Manchester United’s plan. Their midfield problems are known to all, and bringing in two players like Vidal and Pogba who can both play in more than just one specific role sounds like a perfect way to settle those issues. The problem is that there’s a slim chance they’ll actually go for it.
Real Madrid have already shown interest in Vidal during the summer but Juventus managed to rebuff their courtship. Pogba has been on the list of several big clubs as well, with PSG seeming like the biggest threat to make him and Juventus an offer they won’t be able to refuse. Manchester United? It’s hard to believe they’ll make an outlandish offer for the 20-year old, and Pogba himself, who left Manchester United for free in order to join Juventus, might not be too keen on going back to a place where he didn’t get a raise or the playing time he demanded at the time when he was just 18.
Vidal has been with Juventus since 2011, into his third season with the team. He has won the two previous league titles, being a growing part of their success from the first season to the second. He has 13 goals in all competitions this season, including 5 in the Champions League, which didn’t help Juventus advance to the round of 16. However it has been good enough to open up an 8 point lead at the top of the table.
Pogba is into his second season with Juventus. After featuring sparingly during his first year with the club, mostly coming off the bench and from time to time impressing with some remarkable goals, this season he has taken over Claudio Marchisio’s place in the lineup. He isn’t scoring too much (6 goals in all competitions), but he is contributing in every other possible way, and just might be the best U-21 player in Europe.
