No centers, but plenty of stars, obviously, voted to start for the East and West in the 2014 NBA All-Star game, with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Paul George, Carmelo Anthony and Kyrie Irving on the Eastern team facing Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love and Kobe Bryant on the Western team.

Kobe Bryant got 988,884 votes, even though he asked fans not to vote for him. Bryant played in only six regular season games so far before another injury took him out for an unknown time, and Bryant doesn’t really think he deserves to be an All-Star, and might not play in the game. Stephen Curry actually got more votes (1,047,281) than Bryant to start in the backcourt.

No centers were voted into the starting lineups, with the frontcourt voting instead of specifically for centers hurting players like Roy Hibbert and especially Dwight Howard, who is usually an automatic choice for the starting five. In general, LeBron James was the player receiving the most votes (1,416,419) followed by Kevin Durant (1,396,294).

East

Guards – Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers will make his second All-Star appearance, averaging 21.7 points and 6.1 assists this season for the disappointing team. Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat will be in his 10th consecutive All-Star game. He’s getting a lot of rest this season, averaging 18.9 points per game.

Frontcourt – All forwards, led by LeBron James of the Miami Heat. James will also be appearing in his 10th All-Star game, and is averaging 26.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game this season. Paul George of the Indiana Pacers is going to appear in the All-Star game for a second time; he’s averaging 23.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Carmelo Anthony is playing for the struggling Knicks, playing in his 7th All-Star game. He’s averaging 26.1 points and 9 rebounds per game.

West

Guards – After the outcry last season, no mistake was made and Curry made it in to the All-Star game for the first time in his career. He’s averaging 23.5 points and 9.2 assists this season. Kobe Bryant has barely played for the Lakers this season, which didn’t stop fans from voting him into his 16th All-Star game. He has averaged only 13.8 points and 6.3 assists per game in his short healthy period.

Frontcourt – Kevin Durant got the most votes in the West, leading the Oklahoma City Thunder without Westbrook by his side. He’s averaging 31 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. Blake Griffin is doing well with the Clippers without Chris Paul, scoring 22.6 points and grabbing 10.6 rebounds a night; it’ll be his 4th All-Star appearance. Kevin Love is in the game for a 3rd time; he’s averaging 25 points and 13 rebounds per game for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Stuff

It will be played on February 16, 2014 at New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana. This will be the second time that New Orleans is hosting the All-Star game; the city had previously hosted the event in 2008 in the New Orleans Arena. The Western conference has won the last three games.
