Not everyone likes their football stars with a big mouth, but it doesn’t mean it’s wrong to speak your mind. Richard Sherman is the player getting the most attention heading into Super Bowl week, but the Seattle Seahawks cornerback doesn’t regret anything, nor should he feel sorry about his comments.

Yes, people still haven’t had enough of Sherman exploding at the end of the NFC championship game, directing a short rant towards Michael Crabtree of the San Francisco 49ers. Hordes of critics came out of the woodwork to wag a little finger at Sherman, who knew exactly what he was doing.

I definitely think it helped. Everybody getting the chance to see the craziness, the tons of media in our press conferences. Things like that definitely can help us get ready and get focused now that we’re here this week.

Super Bowl week is something that Peyton Manning is the only player on both squads to have experienced it. The media attention might get to some players, and according to Sherman, putting so much of the spotlight on himself and generally on the Seahawks instead of letting them prepare quietly for the game could have only benefited them heading into the final week of practice before they face the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.

But Sherman isn’t just someone who talks his mouth off without providing any substance. He just might be the best cornerback in the NFL today; he isn’t the only one who says it. He finished with 8 interceptions this season despite being thrown at a lot less than many others. It’s not always easy to admit that the most arrogant person in the room is also the best at what he does, but there are few doing better at the moment in covering wide receivers than Sherman.

I think you’re always cognizant as a football player that what you say is going to get attention. Especially in today’s world, where everybody’s looking for a story. But in the end, it’s all going to come down to who plays the best football on Sunday.
