There’s nothing funny or humorous about a moment of silence before a football match, but one can’t help but smile when looking back at photos that catch team mascots joining the players in these somber traditions.
Whether it’s an owl, a dog, a dragon, a lion or anything else, something seems amiss when there’s a moment of silence to remember or honor anything at all and a furry costume with someone inside it stands next to the players, tilting its head down with the already fixed look on its face.
And how about a devil? Some teams have devils as their team’s representation, which doesn’t fit so well with the themes of death and remembrance, but a club isn’t going to change its mascot just because it doesn’t fit the 60 seconds of quiet before matches, right?
