Not a lot of change as another national signing day goes by, with Alabama far ahead of the rest of the competition and the SEC putting 7 teams in the top 10 of recruiting classes, as Tennessee snatched everything that moved within the state and LSU did an excellent job in-house as well.
From other conferences, Florida State, being the national champions, did very well as well, while Ohio State and Miami don’t have anything to complain about when it comes to what they’ve been able to pick up.
10 – Miami Hurricanes
The ‘Canes walked away with 12 four-star players and 13 3-star commits, including 11 players from the ESPN 300. They did very well when it came to the defensive line, getting Chad Thomas, Trent Harris and Anthony Moten, all coming out of Florida. They added another quarterback in Brad Kaaya out of California, but their biggest addition was running back Joseph Yearby who had offers from Alabama, Florida State and USC as well.
9 – Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes are by far the best in the Big Ten when it came to recruiting, getting the number one inside linebacker in the nation, Raekwon McMillan out of Georgia who had an offer from pretty much every big school in the country. Johnnie Dixon from Florida is yet another super-fast receiver to add to the growing collection Urban Meyer is assembling, while adding two defensive backs in Marshon Lattimore and Erick Smith, both out of Ohio was a move in the right direction to fix the team’s most problematic area.
8 – Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia are tied for the smallest class in the SEC (“only” 21 players) but 12 of them are four-star recruits and one is five-star, landing the number 3 defensive end coming out of high school, Lorenzo Carter from Norcross high school in Georgia. They kept going for talented running backs (as if they didn’t have enough), adding Sony Michel and Nick Cubb, while also adding quarterback Jacob Park out of South Carolina.
7 – Auburn Tigers
Auburn signed 23 players, 17 of them being four-star recruits. They got the number one junior college prospect in D’haquille Williams (Mississippi Gulf Coast Comm College) and also a linebacker from the same place, Derrick Moncrief. Tre Mason is gone, but they’ve added Racean Thomas from Oxford, Alabama. Sean White from Florida might become their starting quarterback in a year or two.
6 – Florida Gators
The Gators had an awful season, but it didn’t hurt their recruiting class, lading cornerback Jalen Tabor from Arizona, one of the best cornerbacks in the nation, which will come in handy considering Marcus Roberson and Loucheiz Purifoy departed early for the NFL. Getting David Sharpe for the offensive tackle position is going to be huge for them while defensive tackle Gerald Willis III looks like a solid addition to a strong defense.
5 – Texas A&M Aggies
The Aggies brought in “only” 22 players, but two of them are five-star recruits, including Miles Garrett, a defensive end from Arlington and Speedy Noil out of New Orleans. Kyle Allen, considered to be the number one pocket passing quarterback in the class, gets a big receiver in Frank Iheanacho out of Houston to throw to, while they also addressed their line needs with a pair of junior college offensive linemen, Avery Gennesy and Jermaine Eluemunor.
4 – Tennessee Volunteers
No five star recruits, but Tennessee signed 35 players, bringing in stars from within the state in wide receiver Josh Malone, safety Todd Kelly and running back Jalen Hurd. The nation’s No. 2-ranked junior college prospect, wide receiver, LaVon Pearson, also signed. Butch Jones also got plenty of players to improve his defense with Dewayne Hendrix, Cortez McDowell, Gavin Bryant, D’Andre Payne and Derek Barnett.
3 – Florida State Seminoles
The Seminoles were impressive once again with a recruiting class that includes running back Dalvin Cook coming out of Miami and two impressive wide receivers in Ermon Lane and Travis Rudolph, both also coming from the state. Linebacker Kain Daub from Jacksonville and defensive end Lorenzo Featherstone out of North Carolina are the best in this class on the defensive side of the ball.
2 – LSU Tigers
LSU focused on their own state and pretty much got all the top talent from there. Leonard Fournette just might be the best running back in the country at his age (New Orleans), and the same goes for wide receiver Malachi Dupre (River Ridge, Louisiana). Brandon Harris is the number 2 dual threat quarterback in this class (Bossier City), while on the defensive end of things safety Jamal Adams out of Texas and linebacker Clifton Garrett out of Illinois seem like the biggest signings.
1 – Alabama Tigers
By far the best recruiting class with five five-star recruits: #1 offensive tackle Cameron Robinson out of West Monroe, Louisiana; #2 defensive end Da’Shawn Hand out of Woodbridge, Virginia; #2 cornerback Tony Brown out of Beaumont, Texas; Bo Scarbrough out of Northport, Alabama and cornerback Marlon Humphrey out of Hoover, Alabama.
