For Arsenal it was about missing an opportunity to reach the top of the table, for Manchester United it was simply another match of disappointing ability and no win, as the two teams left everyone quite disappointed with the match and the 0-0 draw.
Almost an identical lineup for Manchester United from their 2-2 draw against Fulham, which meant Juan Mata on the wing (left this time) while Antonio Valencia playing instead of Ashley Young. Robin van Persie alone up front while Wayne Rooney playing a lot more like a midfielder than a striker.
Arsenal? It wasn’t just about a win to reach the top of the table for them, but building up their confidence after the 5-1 loss at Anfield in the weekend. So Arsenal huffed and puffed, and played attacking and confident football, but could hardly get a chance in the box despite all of their 1-2 passing, usually happening too slow to actually stun a well organized Manchester United defense, leaving very little room for Arsenal players just in front of the box.
Manchester United were actually just as dangerous when it came to memorable opportunities, all of them belonging to Robin van Persie. Once came early on with a one on one he botched in front of Sczcesny, and later on with a fantastic header stopped once again by the Polish goalkeeper.
For Arsenal, their best chance came late in the match, when Mesut Ozil and Cazrola finally found some space after a quick exchange of passing between them, but David de Gea read that shot well. Olivier Giroud was once again inefficient with the chances he got, as many will be wondering if a better striker would have done more with what Giroud had to work with.
Arsenal stopped their mega loss from becoming a flood, but they remain in something of a tilt, missing a great opportunity that might not present itself too many times this season, which is getting the better of Chelsea, not to mention catching Manchester United so weak and lacking confidence.
Manchester United remain far away from a European spot, let alone a Champions League berth, but considering how they played with the ball and throughout the 90 minutes, they’re probably happy with not losing or conceding.
