The Best of Howard Webb Hates Liverpool Meme

It seems that Howard Webb doesn’t grow tired of screwing Liverpool over, even though he’s been at it for quite some time. For the second time this season he was standing right next to a clear foul in the box on Luis Suarez but decided to ignore it for whatever reason.

The first time it happened was against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with Samuel Eto’o not making any attempt to hide his challenge. Yes, Suarez does try to milk every call a bit too much for most people’s taste, but it doesn’t change the fact that a foul is a foul. Eto’o was supposed to be sent off in the second minute of that match, but that is besides the point, or is it?

His second awful decision against Liverpool came in the FA Cup match against Arsenal. Giving Liverpool one penalty (a justified one) was a bit too much for Webb, who decided that a clear foul by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on Luis Suarez, right in front of Webb (see a pattern emerging?) was worth ignoring for some reason.

Brendan Rodgers, not for the first this season, had a go at the officials for costing his team points or in this case a draw or win – either a replay at Anfield or actually making it to the quarterfinals of the competition.

For years Webb has been made fun of as the number one referee for Manchester United, but that changed the moment Alex Ferguson stepped down it seemed. He had plenty of moments that ruined matches for Liverpool under that guise, but it seems switching favorites for him doesn’t mean he’s going to stop tormenting the reds whenever he has the chance to make a mistake against them.
