The biggest rivalry in Italy continues to be one sided as Juventus claim a 2-0 win at the San Siro with goals from Fernando Llorente and Carlos Tevez, while a better AC Milan side is left to wonder what went wrong.
In the simplest way possible? Juventus are better by so much than Milan and most of the league that they don’t really need a very good performance in order to get their first away win against Milan since 2010. Just converting one of two chances in the first half while Milan kept pressing and playing well, and converting one of two chances in the second half, making Milan give up in the final 22 minutes.
Juventus were the dominant side possession wise through the first 15 minutes, but Milan looked good with Adel Taarabt leading their counter attacks and providing some much needed creativity, while Andrea Poli did an excellent defensive job on Andrea Pirlo. One amazing chance for Stephan Lichtsteiner in the 19th minute was saved by Abbiati, and from there Milan controlled the match, creating quite a few dangerous opportunities, with Gianluigi Buffon getting the better of Kaka, Taarabt and Poli time after time.
One long ball before the half time whistle was chased down by Carlos Tevez, and some wondeful passing between him, Marchisio and Lichtsteiner resulted in Fernando Llorente scoring, giving Juve a 1-0 lead at the break.
The second half? More of the same. Juventus playing cautiously, and Milan left frustrated by Buffon. Poli left with a head injury after colliding with Caceres, and not long after Carlos Tevez scored one of the most beautiful goals we’ve seen this season in Italy, pretty much finishing the game with 22 minutes left to play.
Juventus now hold an 11 point lead over Roma (but have played one more match) in what seems to be a title race that isn’t really going on, while Milan remain in the middle of the table, probably encouraged by their ability but thinking what it’ll take for them to start finishing better and somehow make a European competition next season.
