Match Highlights & Table – Week 27 Spanish La Liga

Cristiano Ronaldo

The picture at the top of the table continues to change, with Barcelona slipping to third after their loss at Valladolid, Atletico Madrid moving back up to second thanks to finally winning, this time at Vigo while Real Madrid keep on scoring and winning, opening a three point lead at the top after beating Levante.

Athletic Bilbao remain the fourth angle in the Champions League qualification picture after an enjoyable but filled-with-mistakes draw against Valencia.

Valladolid 1  Barcelona 0Another slip on the road for Barcelona, this time conceding early via Fausto Rossi and finding it difficult later on to create too many meaningful chances except for one huge miss by Neymar.

Betis 2  Getafe 0: There’s not too much hope left for Betis in this awfu lseason, but a win over another endangered team makes it a bit more interesting, getting goals from Leo Baptistao and Ruben Castro.

Celta 0  Atletico 2Ateltico continue to look less than impressive, but this time their defense held on against a stubborn team, while a 3-minute blitz produced two goals from David Villa, and a return to second place.

Granada 2  Villarreal 0A huge blow for the yellow submarine in their Champions League aspiration, losing against a team still in real danger of relegation despite their 12th place in the table. Fran Rico and Youssef El Arabi scored in the first half.

Espanyol 3  Elche 1An excellent match that could have gone either way, but Espanyol made the most of their chances while Elche’s only goal came through an own goal by Juan Rafael Fuentes Hernandez just before the final whistle. This keeps Espanyol in the hunt for a Europa League place after scoring the first 3 via David Lopez, Diego Colotto and Pizzi.

Almeria 1  Sevilla 3Business as usual for Sevilla, making a stronger claim of the 7th spot. Carlos Bacca, Daniel Carrico and Kevin Gameiro scored before Alexis Vidal Parreu’s consolation goal.

Real Madrid 3  Levante 0It wasn’t the BBC doing the damage this time, but Marcelo joining Cristiano Ronaldo and an own goal by Nikos Karabelas in a very one sided match, as expected.

Valencia 1  Athletic Bilbao 1Terrible refereeing gave a point to both sides: Valencia scored the opener with Pedro Alcacer in an offside position, while Bilbao scored from the penalty spot after being given a very questionable one which Aritz Aduriz converted.
