Denver Broncos or Kansas City Chiefs – Where did Emmanuel Sanders Sign?

Emmanuel Sanders

Just as the news of Emmanuel Sanders signing with the Denver Broncos broke out, it seems that his agent, Steve Weinberg, has come to a verabl agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs. So where is the wide receiver, leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers no matter what, is going to sign?

One source suggests that Weinberg has agreed to a deal with the Chiefs on Sanders’ behalf, and then went on to talk about things with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So while he was shopping Sanders to the Bucs, Weinberg never discolsed that he pretty much agreed to terms with the Chiefs.

Later in the day, Weinber agreed to a deal with the Broncos, which right now is also where Sanders is headed, despite all the verbal agreements and pitches his agent made other teams, with the San Francisco 49ers also involved.

Weinberg was reinstated recently after being barred and decertified in 2003 by the NFLPA for financial improprieties. Aside from Sanders, he has only two other NFL clients. Considering how angry some teams seem to be with the way Weinberg handled this, it’s going to be very hard for him and his players to get deals done.

The Steelers aren’t re-signing Sanders because of his money demands and injury concerns. He was a restricted free agent last season, but the Steelers matched the offers he got from the New England Patriots, signing him on for another season.

Sanders has played all 16 games in both the 2012 and 2013 seasons. He caught 67 passes out of 112 targets for 740 yards and six touchdowns. On paper and from the numbers, he seems to be through a breakout stage of his career. However, the Steelers don’t want to pay him any more than they have so far, and it’s interesting to see how this whole situation created by his agent turns out.
