Anything the American president, Barack Obama, does or says, becomes instant news. That includes his visit to Japan and their Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, which included him meeting ASIMO and playing a little bit of soccer with him.
ASIMO, an acronym for Advanced Step in Innovative MObility, is Honda’s humanoid robot that looks like an astronaut. It was first introduced in 2000 but has since gone a few technological developments to make it seem like an annoying kid that runs and jumps around before you smack it or yell at it to stop.
Obviously, because it’s a robot, everyone is amazed instead of getting infuriated.
ASIMO has made quite a few public appearances, including serving water to Stephen Fry while he was hosting QI, but playing some footy with the American president? That’s a first. Of course, instead of enjoying the little moment, there will be plenty of people pointing out that America is in national debt and Obama is playing soccer with a robot on his spare time.
