2014 World Cup – Day 10 Results & Table

Lionel Messi

Not a day filled with goals, but some great moments and a lot of good football. Argentina beat Iran to put themselves in the next stage thanks to Lionel Messi. Nigeria might join them thanks to a victory over Bosnia, coming through referee mistakes in their favor. Germany and Ghana presented the best match of the tournament which ended in a draw, as Miroslav Klose equaled Ronaldo at the top of the all-time scoring charts in the World Cup.

Argentina 1  Iran 0A bad match, as Iran’s plan of parking the bus and halting Argentina’s slightly stagnant attack worked perfectly. Sergio Romero was actually the busier of two goalkeepers with three saves off of Iran counter attacks. However, after a weak performance from Lionel Messi, the best footballer in the world waited for injury time to pull of a vintage move from right to the center and curl the ball beautifully into the corner.

Germany 2  Ghana 2A terrible first half and then the best 45 minutes of this tournament and also some of the best we’ve seen in any World Cup. Germany took the lead through Mario Gotze, but Ghana were the better team and with goals from Andre Ayew and the fantastic Asamoah Gyan, taking a 2-1 lead in the 63 minute. Miroslav Klose made history by scoring his 15th goal in his four World Cups, giving us a well deserved and enjoyable draw.

Nigeria 1  Bosnia 0A weird match which began with a Bosnian goal that was wrongly disallowed. Nigeria scored with Emmanuel Emineke fouling Emir Spahic on his way to give the Super Eagles their winner, which also sends Bosnia home. Edin Dzeko kept on missing in the second half including a huge one in the final seconds of the match, but throughout the second half it looked like the heat and physicality of the Nigerians was too much for Bosnia to handle.

No red cards and more official controversy, this time coming from the terrible Peter O’Leary of New Zealand, ruining things for Bosnia on more than one occasion. With six goals in three matches, our average is down to 2.86 goals per match with 83 goals after 29 contests.
