It wasn’t that surprising to see Brazil and Mexico qualify from Group A, but it was sure impressive to see them finishing the job with wins over Croatia and Cameroon, while the meme and joke makers mostly focused on Miguel Herrera, Neymar and Fred sporting an impressive mustache.
Fred has been joked about for more than the mustache. He did score a goal against Cameroon, but many have said that Brazil could have started a cone in their lineup and it would have the same effect. Neymar is being made fun of for diving, but his scoring record for the national team is nothing to mock.
As for Mexico, Miguel Herrera steals the show. It was Memo Ochoa who took everyone by surprise with his performance against Brazil. Since then, the two most talked about things have been the Mexican chants during goal kicks of the opposition, and Herrera’s passion and faces after every goal and incident.
Mexico aren’t favorites against the Netherlands but are certainly a less than comfortable draw. Brazil head into their clash with Chile with a different set of expectations, but with a lot more confidence after beating Cameroon and finally putting on an impressive display.
