NBA Rumors – Golden State Warriors Willing to Trade for Jeremy Lin & Chandler Parsons

Jeremy Lin, Chandler Parsons

The Houston Rockets are trying to move heaven and earth so they can get the cap space to sign that third superstar they’ve been dreaming of. After trading Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin and his contract are next, but it seems that right now the only viable option for a deal is if they include Chandler Parsons in it as well, with the Golden State Warriors welcoming recipients.

Parsons averaged 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4 assists per game last season, heading into restricted free agency this summer. He has done remarkably well and beyond expectations during his short time with the Rockets, considering he was the 38th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. The Rockets would like to keep him by re-signing him, but if trading him means landing LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony, they’re willing to live with it.

Jeremy Lin once again suffered from having a coach that doesn’t believe in him, averaging 12.5 points and 4.1 assists per game while mostly coming off the bench and being forced to play behind James Harden and Patrick Beverley, or simply being used as an off-the-ball shooter for too many minutes while players less equipped to handle the position of point guard do it for him.

Lin actually began his NBA career with the Warriors but didn’t do much there. If he’ll end up with the Warriors, he won’t be the starting point guard, but his chances to succeed will probably be better than whatever waits for him in Houston, where Kevin McHale has no intention of ever admitting he’s wrong about him, instead promoting the selfishness of James Harden and the overrated Patrick Beverley.

Parsons might also struggle to find a starting spot for the Warriors, unless some trades are made. Right now the link with the Timberwolves id dead, but moving Harrison Barnes or David Lee might become a reality if another offer comes up. Parsons can play in small ball lineups as a four, and his outside shooting will certainly bring another dimension to an offense that relies on Thompson and Curry to do the damage from the outside.

Lin might work out anyway. The Warriors need a backup point guard badly. Jarrett Jack left and Steve Blake didn’t really work out as expected. Lin can also play alongside Curry and/or Thompson and be the main ball handler, freeing up Curry to run around off the ball screens, making the Warriors offense a bit more versatile than it might have been last season, especially in the postseason.

What will the Rockets get in return? Maybe another first-round draft pick or they might have to swallow Harrison Barnes and his contract. The main thing for them is opening up more cap space so Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James become more than just a pipe dream.
