The number one priority for the Miami Heat this offseason is to keep LeBron James and the direction they’ve been on for the past four years. Regardless of the decision he makes, keeping Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, hopefully for less money than their options, is also quite important.
Multiple sources suggest that Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have made up their minds, and that they’ll opt out of their contracts over this weekend. However, another source suggests that the two aren’t any closer to announcing their decision compared to last week. Time, obviously, is running out to make up their minds about their next contract.
Many roads, many options. Still the one that looks more reasonable than the others is staying with the Miami Heat for less money, and following LeBron James by opting out of their deals. James still hasn’t decided (or at least hasn’t declared) what he’s going to do: Stay with the Heat or take his talents elsewhere, but the reasonable solution seems like staying where he made the biggest contributions to his legacy and help the franchise provide him and themselves with more opportunities to win titles.
But there is money to care about. Chris Bosh has said he’s willing to take less money in order to help the Miami Heat out. He wants to stay, but obviously, that decision has everything to do with what LeBron James decides to do. James cares a little bit less about his NBA salary because he is a mogul, one of the highest paid athletes in the world thanks to his business and endorsements outside the court.
Bosh and Wade aren’t exactly struggling to pay the cable bill, but maximizing their earning opportunity while they’re still in the NBA is a priority. Maybe not the biggest one, but opting out of their deals means they’ll never make that kind of money again until they retire. Bosh will have an opportunity to sign a big deal if he leaves right now and looks for a new team, but Wade? The NBA Finals were the final example of how far he is right now and will be for the rest of his career from an elite level.
James still leads this decision, but sometimes player surprise even those closest to them. Everyone seems to think they know what’s right for both Bosh and Wade. They know what their priorities should be. But sometimes the common belief doesn’t begin to scratch the surface and uncover the truth. James is the leader of this trio in terms of his decision being the ground setting one, but surprises always come when you least expect them to.
