Transfer Rumors 2014 – Liverpool A Bit Closer to Signing Loïc Rémy

Loïc Rémy

It hasn’t been long since Liverpool sold their best player of the last few years and it seems like they’re close to signing a striker that hopefully will somehow help make up for all the goals they’ve potentially lost, as Loïc Rémy of QPR seems to be closer and closer to completing a move.

According to ESPN FC, an £8 million fee has been agreed upon with the London club, and the deal will be completed in the next few days.

Remy played on loan for Newcastle last season, scoring 14 goals in 26 appearances and was one of the few bright spots in a very mediocre and disappointing season for the Magpies. He was part of the World Cup squad France sent to Brazil, but didn’t take a meaningful part in their run to the quarterfinals.

Liverpool have already added one striker this summer: Rickie Lambert, but the England international should be a backup for Daniel Sturridge and whoever joins him up front, which at the moment seems to be Rémy. Liverpool also tried to sign Alexis Sanchez through their Suarez-to-Barcelona deal, but he preferred to join Arsenal, supposedly because he wanted to live in London and not in the Northwest.

Iago Aspas, having a terrible debut season in England, was loaned out, which means it’s going to be Sturridge, Lamebrt and another player up front for Liverpool, while the likes of Raheem Sterling and possibly Jordan Ibe help out in wider or secondary roles.

So far this season, Liverpool have made four signings worth a total of £64.7 million while selling Luis Suarez for £71.4 million to Barcelona, meaning there should be a lot more to use for adding players to a team that is back in the Champions League for the first time since 2009. Fabio Borini should complete a £14 million move to Sunderland very soon.
