Did we mention Liverpool have been probably the busiest of Premier League teams in this transfer window? They’re not done yet, as it seems they’re coming very close to completing the signings of Dejan Lovren of Southampton and Divock Origi of Lille.
The BBC are claiming that not a lot stands between Liverpool and Lille for the 19-year old Belgian player. However, he is on holiday, which means that there’s no date for a medical at Melwood just yet for him, while the club is away in the United States for training camp and their American tour.
Origi, who played five matches for Belgium in the World Cup, scoring one goal, will be dealt for £10 million before being loaned back to Lille, as the trend of Premier League clubs flexing their financial muscles before helping out the minnows of European footballs in exchange for their ability to give young players minutes continues.
Dejan Lovren is something of a more immediate nature. Southampton are still giving Liverpool trouble, but it looks like the Croatian centre back who featured three times for his side in the World Cup will eventually find himself leaving the South Coast only one season after arriving for £8.5 million from Lyon, continuing the massive exodus from Southampton. Two players – Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana, have already joined Liverpool this summer.
Southampton rejected a £20 million bid from Liverpool for the player, but there seems to be a policy of not keeping anyone who doesn’t want to play for the club at St. Mary’s. It might take a bit more time to complete the dealing, and yet it’s hard to imagine the 25-year old spending another season with Southampton due to his fierce desire to see the transfer go through.
Liverpool have already spent €73.5 million this summer on Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic and Emre Can. The sale of Luis Suarez to Real Madrid was worth more than all of those deals combined. The signing of Loic Remy of QPR is also rumored to be completed.
