Sometimes it was actually depressing seeing the Baltimore Ravens last season, but a change of offensive coordinators means that might be a thing of the past, as Joe Flacco looked good early on, a counter to Colin Kaepernick who didn’t do anything special, with the San Francisco 49ers losing 23-3.

Kaepernick helped the 49ers get their only points in the game, throwing one pass for 17 yards as the 49ers moved 66 yards through his only series to score the game opening field goal. That was countered by an 80-yard, 10-play drive from the Ravens, who didn’t look like a team that is adjusting to a completely new offense, with Gary Kubiak taking over after his hellish season with the Texans in 2013.

Flacco completed 4-of-5 passes for 52 yards while it was Bernard Pierce who got to score the opening touchdown of the game, as the Ravens took complete control of anything that happened afterwards. Taylor completed 13-of-21 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, but he was also intercepted by Chris Cook. Both teams combined to turn the ball over five times during the game, including interceptions thrown by Blaine Gabbert and McLeod Bethel-Thompson, with the 49ers using four quarterbacks in the loss.

Ray Rice was an interesting figure to follow. The running back got a two-game suspension from the NFL for the domestic violence charges. He was welcomed warmly by the Baltimore fans, providing three runs for 17 yards in his short time on the field. Pierce, who’ll get the touches Rice leaves on the field and will probably see an increased role this season ran for 37 yards on 10 carries. Lorenzo Taliaferro rushed for 71 yards on 13 carries and Tyrod Taylor did well on the ground with five rushes and 59 yards.

The 49ers left plenty of starters out of this one, as Frank Gore, Michael Crabtree, Brandon Lloyd and Patrick Willis didn’t take part of this game. C.J. Mosley, the Raven’s top draft pick (17th overall out of Alabama) was their top performer on defense with five tackles and a sack. After a disappointing Super Bowl defense season, the Ravens seem like they have new blood injected into their system, hoping it doesn’t just show in preseason games.
