For now there doesn’t seem to be anyone in a hurry to see too much from their quarterbacks, as the New York Giants beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-16 without using Eli Manning more than the bare minimum, and the same can be said for Ben Roethilsberger on the losing side.

Manning, playing for his second preseason game, didn’t complete a single pass. He was mostly handing the ball off to Rashard Jennings, attempting only two passes, missing them both. Jennings scored an early touchdown as he busted out on a 73-yard run to give the Giants a 7-3 lead in the first quarter which they never let slip away from them. Jennings finished with 85 yards on five carries, while the Giants had 171 yards on 31 carries, although Jennings’ big one makes it seem like it was actually a good day for them on the ground.

Ryan Nassib was the one who played the most, completing 12 of 21 passes for 81 yards. Curtis Painter was perfect with 7-of-7 for 68 yards and also a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, finding Corey Washington for the three-yard touchdown. The Steelers didn’t score a single offensive touchdown. Their only trip to the endzone came as Howard Jones returned a Nassib fumble 28 yards for the eventual seven points.

So while the Giants seemed pleased with how their offense was working, another underachieving team from last season didn’t show smiles when the game was over. Landry Jones was the one who got most of the throws, as the former Oklahoma quarterback, maybe lined up to one day take over for Roethlisberger, completed 11-of-21 passes for 74 yards. Bruce Gradkowski finished with 66 yards (8-of-12), as the Steelers allowed a couple of sacks. Manning was also sacked once.

More notables? Roethlisberger, playing in only one series, was 1-of-2. Mike Tomlin wasn’t happy with how his team was defending the run, while the Giants and especially Rashard Jennings and Washington, catching his second touchdown of the preseason, seemed to be almost gloating from their impressive performance, giving the Giants a few more reasons to believe that 2014 is going to be very different than the previous two seasons.
