These are good time for Club Atl茅tico River Plate and its fans. Not just defending champions, but off to a great start in the Torneo de Transici贸n, beating Godoy Cruz in their most recent match 4-0, including two spectacular goals by Carlos S谩nchez and Te贸filo Guti茅rrez, coming from brilliant build plays and passing.
The first goal came in the 2nd minute, as two 1-2 passes sequences down the left wing freed Lionel Vangioni to deliever a fantastic cross to the middle.聽S谩nchez was left wide open to deliver the opening goal with an accurate volley, coming in from behind into the middle of the penalty box.
Tom谩s Mart铆nez was the assist man on the fourth goal, the second for Guti茅rrez in the match. He and the 19-year old striker combined for two 1-2 passes just outside the box, leaving the Colombian striker, who scored once in the World Cup, completely open in a one on one situation to make it two goals for him on the night.
River Plate are the defending champions, winning the 2014 Torneo Final and also adding the Superfinal title after beating San Lorenzo 1-0 in the final. San Lorenzo did go on to win the Libertadores Cup this month so they’re probably not feeling to aggrieved about it.
It was River’s first title since the 2008 Clausra. In between they were also relegated for the first time, but didn’t take very long after making it back to the top flight to find their bearings. They’re currently second in the Torneo de Transici贸n, two points behind Velez with only three matches gone by.
