Two crazy results, one shocking due to the number of goals, stand out: Everton losing at home to Chelsea in a 6-3 rampage including a brace from Diego Costa, and Stoke City stunning Manchester City at the Etihad with a stunning goal from Mame Biram Diouf. Swansea remain perfect after three matches after beating West Brom and Manchester United couldn’t win again, this time at Burnley.
Leicester 1 Arsenal 1: Arsenal continue to drop points at an alarming rate, conceding an equalizer from Jose Ullola a minute after Alexis Sanchez put them in front in another unconvincing performance from most of the team, especially Mesut Ozil.
Tottenham 0 Liverpool 3: A good enough and convincing response from Liverpool to their loss against Manchester City, showing up Spurs as an overrated and disjointed team. Raheem Sterling in a fantastic match opened the scoring, followed by a penalty goal from Steven Gerrard and a debut strike from Alberto Moreno, the best of the match.
Aston Villa 2 Hull 1: Quite the start from Aston Villa, still undefeated, as Andreas Weimann cemented his place as the team’s best player with an assist to the opener from Gabriel Agbonlahor, followed by the Austrian scoring himself. Nikica Jelavic pegged one back for the visitors.
Burnley 0 Manchester United 0: One of the worst matches we’ll see this season with a big club involved, as the arrival of Angel di Maria didn’t change the tactics or the form of the biggest spenders of this transfer window, going on now to three matches without a win since the season begin.
Manchester City 0 Stoke 1: So far, obviously, the most stunning result we’ve seen this season, as the champions rarely drop points when playing at home. One brilliant slalom from Mame Biram Diouf in the 58th minute was enough to poach a win, with the visitors being the more dangerous side for most of the match, also denied a clear penalty in the first half.
Newcastle 3 Crystal Palace 3: A brilliant and dramatic match at St. James’ Park. Dwight Gayle opened the scoring in less than a minute, but Newcastle came back through new arrival Daryl Janmaat. Jason Puncheon opened the second half with another goal for the visitors, setting up a wild finish. Rolando Aaron scored the equalizer and sorta set up the potential winner to Mike Williamson with two minutes to go, but Wilfried Zaha equalized with five minutes past the 90th minute.
QPR 1 Sunderland 0: The first win for what looked like one of the weakest sides in the league after the first two weeks. Charlie Austin scored from the penalty spot, as QPR won their first points and scored their first goal in 315 minutes this season (including the League Cup).
Swansea 3 West Brom 0: It’s a scorching start from Swansea, winning their third match of the season, with Nathan Dyer scoring twice and Gylfi Siggurdson setting up two of the goals in a fantastic return for him to the Welsh club. Wayne Routledge also scored for the home side with a perfect nine for nine this season.
West Ham 1 Southampton 3: Defensive midfielders can score as well, and Morgan Schneiderlin did it twice for the visitors at Upton Park in a fantastic second half for Southampton, picking up their first win of the season. Mark Noble opened the scoring for the Hammers but two goals from the Frenchman and a finisher from Graziano Pelle did the job.
Everton 3 Chelsea 6: Crazy, crazy match at Goodison Park, which began with two quick goals in two minutes from Diego Costa and Branislav Ivanovic, offisde on the second one. Kevin Mirallas scored the goal that kept things alive just before half time. The second half was when it all exploded – Eden Hazard got help from Seamus Coleman in the 67th minute to make it 3-1. Two minutes later it was Steven Naismith making it 3-2. Nemanja Matic got on the score sheet four minutes later, but Everton responded, making it a one goal match again through Samuel Eto’o. Ramires scored to knock the wind out of Everton’s sails and Diego Costa, polarizing as ever with his ability and behavior, had the final word in the 90th minute.
