Something has changed in Spain’s capital. Atletico Madrid are the best team, proving it time and time again when facing Real Madrid, coming away with another win at the Santiago Bernabeu, although those expressing themselves through memes preferred focusing on Cristiano Ronaldo only scoring penalty kicks.
Last season had some worrying moments in the start for Real Madrid as well. The end? They finished third in the La Liga, but won the Champions League. They’d probably settle for that kind of finish this season as well, as they’re already six points behind Barcelona and four behind Atletico Madrid, winning just once before losing twice to start the season.
A lot of the blame is pointed at Florentio Perez for selling Angel di Maria and Xabi Alonso. Maybe they were a lot more important to the system and team than anyone cares to admit, at least from within the team. James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos are going to help, but it’ll take them time to be that good, if at all.
In the meantime? Barcelona keep winning through Lionel Messi and Neymar while Atletico Madrid continue to be the toughest nut to crack in European football with defense, discipline and commitment that come through each time.
