The wait is over on a number of things, but the most important one was Manchester United picking up their first win this season in the Premier League, beating a sad looking QPR team 4-0 with goals from Angel di Maria, Ander Herrera, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata, while Radamel Falcao and Daley Blind also made their debuts for the team.
Louis van Gaal is over the three-man defense setup for now, moving on to play with a diamond formation, which fits his squad and the abundance of creative players he has a lot more. Falcao started on the bench, and came on later in the second half to play alongside Robin van Persie, who seemed a little bit lost and selfish in the moments in which he touched the ball.
The best player on the pitch? Angel di Maria, usually coming from the left flank but moving freely into other spots, as Manchester United looked a lot like a 4-2-2-2 team during certain moments, allowing Rafael to attack down the right wing while Herrera moved into the middle.
Is this the real Manchester United? It’s what they might be potentially at their best. After looking so bad in the first three matches, one must not get overly excited about the first win. And yet for the first time this season, all the money spent and the vision of having a great team again after a short hiatus seems to be heading in the right direction.
Herrera, back from his injury, looked quite fantastic in the midfield, feeling a bit more free to move forward with Blind covering for him. Manchester United made some mistakes in the back, especially when the ball reached the very poor Jonathan Evans, but they managed to withstand those short moments of fright.
No more excuses and talk of building a team will do. Manchester United have everyone healthy, in a squad that looks a bit imbalanced due to the multitude of talent up front but severely lacking in the defensive side, but Van Gaal hopes that Marcos Rojo (making his debut, playing quite well) and eventually Luke Shaw will take care of that problem as well.
