Things keep getting worse for Everton, losing 2-1 to Manchester United. The goals from Angle di Maria and Radamel Falcao might have done the early difference, but David de Gea, with a penalty kick saves and a few more wonder moments late in the match made sure that all of a sudden, the Red Devils are in the top 4.
Everton equalized in the 55th minute as it seemed like the Manchester United defense was going to undo another fantastic performance from the attacking portion of the team, as Leighton Baines crossed a brilliant ball to Tony Hibbert. However a young Spanish goalkeeper that many thought should be tossed out by the team after his first season with the club once again kept the three points on the right side of things.
The first half was almost all Manchester United. Wayne Rooney not playing meant Juan Mata was able to play behind Van Persie and Falcao, while Di Maria, Daley Blind and Antonio Valencia played behind that trio. Di Maria has been the team’s best player so far this season, and it was his goal that gave them the lead in the 27th minute off of a Mata assist.
In the 47th minute Hibbert was fouled in the box, leading to a Leighton Baines penalty. A weak shot and not an accurate one at that gave De Gea the opportunity to be the hero, not for the last time in this match.
The second half was a bit more entertaining, as the Manchester United zero confidence factor kicked it, allowing Everton to come back. Di Maria, maybe shooting, maybe trying to find Falcao in the box, set up what turned out to be the match winner, with the Colombian striker, rusty all day long with his touches in front of goal, was left wide open in the middle of the box to score in the 62nd minute.
Everton crossed their way into chances, with the biggest one coming just a minute into injury time, as Gareth Barry, Leon Osman and Bryan Ovideo, coming on for Steven Pienaar, were all thwarted by De Gea and one brave or lucky stop by Tyler Blackett.
Everton might be in the bottom three by the end of the day, Manchester United for now are surprisingly in the top four.
