The early edition of match of the season in the Serie A ended with Juventus getting outplayed by Roma, but thanks to two controversial penalty calls and a brilliant winner from Leonardo Bonucci gave the defending champions a 3-2 victory, setting them apart from their rivals at the top of the table.

This was the first time this season that Juventus conceded goals, but eventually, it came down to better finishing in the final minutes. Roma held a 2-1 lead and looked like the better team for most of the match, but maybe it comes down to experience and a little bit of luck, which goes to the team that’s quite used to winning this encounter in recent years.

Juventus scored the first goal as an Andrea Pirlo free kick clipped the hand of Maicon. The argument wasn’t about the handball, but about where the contact was made. In the end, inside the box was the decision, and Carlos Tevez converted from the penalty spot.

Five minutes later Francesco Totti scored his first league goals of the season, making it 21 consecutive seasons with a goal for the Roma legend. He was fouled in the penalty box by Stephan Lichtsteiner, and converted the penalty kick himself.

A beautiful through ball from Gervinho gave us the first non-penalty goal of the match, with a fabulous finish from Juan Manuel Iturbe. Just before the half time whistle, Paul Pogba was fouled on the edge of the box, another penalty was given, and Tevez scored from the spot once again.

The second half was heated, and eventually decided by Leonardo Bonucci of all people hitting a volley from outside the box in the 86th minute to win the match. Alvaro Morata and Kostas Manolas were sent off before the ending for an altercation, but the result wasn’t changed, as Juventus open a 3-point lead at the top of the Serie A.
