Match Highlights – Liverpool vs Swansea

Liverpool beat Swansea

This might not be the best of seasons for Liverpool but at least they’re doing well in the League Cup, coming from behind to beat Swansea 2-1 with two late goals from Mario Balotelli and Dejan Lovren, unlucky to probably not have scored more goals in the first half.

Marvin Emnes scored the opening goal for Swansea in the 64th minute after some poor defending from Kolo Toure and Dejan Lovren, nothing new to Liverpool fans or Brendan Rodgers.

In the 86th minute Mario Balotelli scored only his second goal for Liverpool this season, connecting with a great cross from Fabio Borini, who was probably the best player on the pitch for Liverpool through most of the match.

Five minutes later and Swansea found themselves with 10 men, with Federico Fernandez wrongly sent off for a slide that went in hard on Philippe Coutinho. Surely a foul, maybe a yellow card, but definitely not a red card.

Coutinho took the set piece and Lovren scored the dramatic winner after an awful mistake from goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel, putting Liverpool through into the fifth round, once again coming away with a dramatic victory after the never ending penalty kick saga in the previous round.

Not the best of performances from Liverpool once again, but that matters less and less as this season becomes about stringing wins together. If this has more than slight affect on the league itself, this was a vital win for Liverpool.
