Auburn Over Ole Miss – SEC West Shaken Up Real Good

Auburn beat Ole Miss

So much of the nation’s attention when it comes to College Football this season is focused on what happens in the SEC West, as Auburn change the picture of the division, coming away with a big 35-31 win over Ole Miss thanks to a late touchdown by Cameron Artis-Payne, probably knocking the Rebels out of contention for a playoff spot.

It’s a four headed race in the division, maybe five. But slowly, teams fall. Two losses in such a season might be a bit too much to bear, especially while Mississippi State carry on with their undefeated march before their games in Tuscaloosa and eventually the biggest Egg Bowl game we possibly ever had. Two consecutive losses and it’s definitely falling out of the top 4 when it comes to what the committee has to say.

Bo Wallace looked good, throwing a couple of touchdown passes, going for 341 yards and running for 61 and another score. But the Ole Miss defense wasn’t up to the task. Not of stopping Nick Marshall, who threw for 254 yards and a couple of touchdowns, and not when it came to stopping the run. The Tigers ran for 253 yards, scoring three touchdowns. Artis-Payne was unstoppable, with 143 yards and the game winning touchdown. Marshall ran for a couple himself.

The Tigers were the number three team in the nation heading into the game, and that shouldn’t change considering what we saw from the Bulldogs and Florida State. Ole Miss? Despite falling to number seven in the polls, the committee loved their defense and SOS, keeping them in the top 4. Not anymore though, as two consecutive losses with a team finally figuring out how to run over their defense probably costs them what could have turned out to be a historic season.
