There are still two matches left to play in the Champions League group stage, but we already have four teams with their spot in the round of 16 clinched: Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and FC Porto. Barca and PSG are in the same group.
Bayern Munich, semi-finalists last season in the competition and the 2013 champions, have been perfect so far, winning all four matches of the group stage. They are eight points above both Roma and CSKA Moscow, while the disappointing Manchester City are dead last in the group with just two points. Bayern began the campaign with two modest 1-0 wins over CSKA and Manchester City, but have been a bit more vicious with the Italians, winning 7-1 in Rome and 2-0 in the repeat encounter in Munich.
PSG aren’t perfect, but they’re undefeated and currently leading their group which includes Barcelona. They began with a 1-1 draw in Amsterdam against Ajax, but the Dutch team has since struggled to impress while PSG beat Barcelona in a mega match before a couple of narrow 1-0 wins over APOEL, twice thanks to Edinson Cavani.
Barcelona, as expected, are also part of the last 16. They did lose one match in Paris, but they’ve beaten Ajax home & away and also beat APOEL 1-0 as the Cypriots paid their visit to the Nou Camp. Ajax have just two points in the group, APOEL with just one.
FC Porto are undefeated through the four matches they’ve played so far but they’ve been scoring quite a lot: Beating BATE 6-0, two goals in an away draw with Shakhtar Donetsk, 2-1 in a home win over Bilbao and two goals in their away win against the Basque side. Shakhtar will probably be the team that joins them, two points behind them. Bilbao are last in the group with just one point, and will battle with BATE for the Europa League spot.
