A status quo at the top of the table as Chelsea remain as the number one team following an important yet slightly lucky win over Liverpool at Anfield, while Southampton keep in touch with a late victory against Leicester and Manchester United are back in the hunt for a Champions League spot following their narrow win against Crystal Palace.
Liverpool 1 Chelsea 2: Chelsea keep on winning although without looking very impressive and this time getting some officiating help. Liverpool took the lead through Emre Can and a deflected shot, but Gary Cahill and Diego Costa turned the result around with Liverpool struggling to create chances except a Gerrard shot that was blocked by Gary Cahill’s arm, gone unnoticed by the referee. Burnley 1 Hull City 0: A rare win for Burnley, enjoying an Ashley Barnes strike in the 60th minute. (Match Highlights)
Manchester United 1 Crystal Palace 0: A big win for United despite not playing very well, as it brings them back in full force into the top 4 contention. It also brought back a player who has been playing rather poorly lately, if at all, as Juan Mata’s brilliant goal could be a big turning point for him this season. (Match Highlights)
Southampton 2 Leicester 0: Keeping on pace with Chelsea at the top of the table as Shane Long came off the bench to score a brace in the 75th and 80th minutes. (Match Highlights)
West Ham 0 Aston Villa 0: The worst match of the weekend without all of them actually being played, as Villa continue to find it extremely difficult to score goals for some reason.
QPR 2 Manchester City 2: Further complication in the fading championship race Manchester City are falling out of. Charlie Austin gave the home side the lead in the 21st minute, but Sergio Aguero soon equalized. An own goal by Martin Demichelis in the 76th minute was countered by Aguero seven minutes later, but it was too late to save more than a point. (Match Highlights)
Sunderland 1 Everton 1: A brilliant free kick by Sebastian Larsson gave Sunderland the lead but a penalty kick from Leighton Baines in the 76th mintue means Sunderland remain quite close to the bottom of the table.
Tottenham 1 Stoke 2: Nacer Chadli scored a beautiful goal to put Spurs back in the match in the 77th minute, but that was too much to overcome goals from Bojan and Jonathan Walters in the first half. Kyle Naughton was sent off for Spurs five minutes before the final whistle.
West Brom 0 Newcastle 2: A surprising win for the Magpies, who continue their mercurial rise from the depths of the Premier League table. Ayoze Perez scored an almost perfect goal in the end of the first half and Fabio Coloccini scored a second in the 62nd minute, with Newcastle suddenly back in the upper half of the table after a terrible start.
Swansea 2 Arsenal 1: This simply isn’t going to be Arsenal’s season. Who else but Alexis Sanchez put them in the lead, but goal from Gylfi Siggurdson and Bafetimbi Gomis turned things around for the Welsh side.
