There’s no doubt Lance Stephenson is a good basketball player. But actions like these – hitting himself and then flopping while trying to make Harrison Barnes get called for a foul in the game between the Charlotte Hornets and the Golden State Warriors makes him also an embarrassing member of his franchise and the NBA in general.
Stephenson managed to get Barnes called for an offensive foul, but what actually happened was Stephenson, playing defense, slamming into the shoulder of Barnes, and then slapping himself with his own arm before initiating one of the flops he’s famous for.
Stephenson has already been fined a number of times for flops and other ridiculous actions like blowing in LeBron James’ ear and other silly things. While he’s a talented shooting who is one of the best two-way players at his position in the league, his tendency to try and play dirty while getting into players’ heads often backfires and puts him in the spotlight in a negative light.
Stephenson hasn’t had the best of starts to his career in Charlotte, averaging only 9.9 points while shooting 37.5% from the field after accepting a contract that pays him $9 million a season over the next three years. His team is disappointing, expected to do better than their current record of 4-6.
