Champions League – Week 5 Results & Standings (Groups A – D)

Liverpool FC

Two teams, both from the same group, Atletico Madrid and Juventus, clinched a spot in the next round while Liverpool will now be forced to beat Basel on the final week of the Champions League to carry on in the competition. Arsenal had a day to smile thanks to an impressive win over Dortmund.

Group A

Atletico Madrid 4  Olympiakos 0: A fantastic performance from Atletico to clinch the top spot in the group. Raul Garcia opened the scoring, Mario Mandzukic followed with a brilliant hat trick.

Malmo 0  Juventus 2: An efficient display from Juventus, who’ll be in the next round, with second half goals from Fernando Llorente and Carlos Tevez sealing the deal.

Group B

Basel 0  Real Madrid 1:  One goal from Cristiano Ronaldo to reach 71 in the Champions League kept Real Madrid perfect, and set a play for all showdown at Anfield next week between Basel (who need a draw) and Liverpool, forced to win or go home.

Ludogorets 2  Liverpool 2: Another terrible performance from Liverpool that somehow didn’t end with a loss. An awful mistake by Simon Mignolet in the third minute allowed Dani Abalo to score the opening goal. Two huge mistakes in the Bulgarian defense gave Rickie Lambert and Jordan Henderson opportunities to score, but an 87th minute equalizer from Georgi Terziev sealed it in a draw that’s bad for Liverpool.
