The run towards an undefeated season continues for Chelsea with an impressive 3-0 derby win over Tottenham, bringing them back to their winning ways with goals from Eden Hazard, Didier Drogba and Loic Remy.
After 14 matches, only six points have been dropped by Chelsea, looking like firm favorites to win their first league title since 2010. Their win keeps them six points ahead of the only team that can somehow catch up with them, Manchester City, while Southampton keep sliding after a loss to Arsenal. Tottenham themselves? They fall down to 10th place, although it’s a long way before saying they’re out of the picture when it comes to the fourth spot or even third.
The opening goal came in the 19th minute after some clever passing between Hazard and Drogba. The Ivorian striker, starting for Diego Costa, put in his best match since coming back to Stamford Bridge, dominating in the middle of the penalty box, having no problem playing the target man.
Dorgba was on target himself three minutes later with a nice finish after an Oscar assist. Chelsea struggled creating chances in the second half, and Jose Mourinho put Loic Remy on the pitch to give Drogba some rest.
The Frenchman found himself alone against two defenders and the goalkeeper shortly after, shaking the defender off of him before putting Chelsea three goals up in the 73rd minute.
Championship? It’s still too soon, but it’s hard to imagine anyone catching up with this amazing pace they’re setting. Still too soon to talk about ‘the invincibles’ season, but it’s starting more and more to look like something similar.
