A busy weekend of championship games gave us Oregon (Pac-12), Alabama (SEC), Florida State (ACC) and Ohio State as conference champions through real final games, while TCU and Baylor share the Big 12 title in a conference that doesn’t have a title game.
#7 Arizona 13 #2 Oregon 51: The Ducks had no problem beating Arizona in the rematch between the two teams, winning the Pac-12 for the first time since 2011 and cementing their spot in the first college football playoff.
#1 Alabama 42 #16 Missouri 13: What everyone feared happened, as Missouri were completely overwhelmed by a much better team, sending Alabama into the playoff with their third SEC title under Nick Saban.
Iowa State 3 #3 TCU 55: The Horned Frogs did what they needed and crushed the worst team in the Big 12 (or is it Kansas). They co-share the conference title for the first time since joining it, but will it be enough to make the playoff?
#4 Florida State 37 #11 Georgia Tech 35: A great performance from Jameis Winston led Florida State to another unimpressive win. They win the ACC for a third straight season and being undefeated, they’ll be in the playoff, with the committee not having an excuse to throw them out.
#13 Wisconsin 0 #5 Ohio State 59: With their third string quarterback but an incredible running game and defense, the Buckeyes won the Big Ten for the first time since the championship game format was installed, possibly doing enough to be ranked in the top 4.
#9 Kansas State 27 #6 Baylor 38: Baylor got the win over the ranked conference team they badly needed. It might be enough to put them over TCU, but will it be enough to get them over Ohio State? It’s a second consecutive conference title for Baylor, although it is shared.
Oklahoma State 38 #20 Oklahoma 35: This is Oklahoma’s worst season since 2009 (four losses), losing a 14-point lead in the final seven minutes of the game and then being unable to answer an overtime field goal. The Cowboys are going to the playoff thanks to the win.
Fresno State 14 #22 Boise State 28: A win that might help the Broncos get into a New Year’s bowl game, as they claim their second Mountain West conference title and their 12th overall since 1999, which includes the WAC and what was the Big West.
