Sports are important. Basketball, playing in the NBA; that’s important too. But there are bigger things in life. John Wall showed that as he was overcome with emotion after the Washington Wizards beat the Boston Celtics 133-132, crying over the death of 6-year old Miyah Telemaque-Nelson.
Miyah was a girl Wall befriended last March, meeting her five months after she was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma. Since then, Wall has been writing her name on his game shoes and has been in contact with her and her family.
A moment of silence was held before the beginning of the game and Wall played with the writing “R.I.P. Miyah” on his sneakers. He scored 26 points to go with a career high 17 assists in the win.
