Los Angeles Clippers – Blake Griffin Great From Start to Finish

Blake Griffin

The Los Angeles Clippers escaped from a rough situation against the Phoenix Suns, as Blake Griffin put on quite a show, maybe the best of his career, capping it off with a buzzer beating 3-pointer to win the game 121-120.

The Clippers were down by four points in overtime with 43 seconds left in the game, but the Suns stalled on their next offensive possession and down by two points, Griffin of all players got the ball and spun to attempt a 3-pointer, not exactly the best part of his game. The ball went like a line drive to bounce of the rim upward, bounce off the back part again before surprisingly sinking in the net. Call it luck or something similar, but the Clippers wont the game because of the work Griffin put in the entire game.

With the game tied at 112-112 before the end of regulation, Chris Paul had a chance to finish it but was blocked by Eric Bledsoe as he drove into the paint without really thinking or looking for open players. Bledsoe, a former backup to Paul on the Clippers, finished with 27 points, 11 rebounds and 16 assists, his first career triple double. Markieff Morris helped out with 21 points, while Chris Paul, on a bad shooting night of 8-for-24 from the field, added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists to the general effort.

Jamal Crawford was ejected from the game in the fourth quarter. After getting tangled up with Eric Bledsoe, Crawford exchanged words with one of the officials, hitting him with his second technical of the game which meant Crawford’s first ejection. About time it happened after 1018 career games.

Griffin is the first Clippers players to hit a buzzer beater to win the game since Baron Davis in 2009. He is also just the third player with 45 points and a buzzer beater in the same game over the last 10 seasons. Gilbert Arenas with 51 points in a win over the Utah Jazz in the 2006-07 season and Dwyane Wade with 48 points and a winner against the Bulls in 2008-09 preceded him. Not bad for someone who was a 23% shooter from beyond the arc heading into this season.
