In the round of 16 stage of the 2014-2015 Champions League, there are four German clubs (Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Schalke, Leverkusen), three from England (Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City), three from Spain (Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Real Madrid), two from France (PSG, Moncao), one from Portugal (Porto), one from Italy (Juventus), one from Switzerland (Basel) and one from Ukraine (Shakhtar Donetsk).
Arsenal
Arsenal always make it into the next stage, but that’s usually as far as they go. They finished second in their group behind Dortmund, ahead of Galatasaray and Anderlecht. Three different players scored three goals for them in the group stage. In the Premier League, the Gunners are only sixth.
Atletico Madrid
The defending La Liga champions finished the group stage in first place ahead of Juventus, Olympiakos and Malmo, with Mario Mandzukic, scoring five goals, as their top scorer. They’re not doing too badly in the Spanish league as well, ranked third, four points behind Real Madird.
Basel
The second time for Basel in the round of 16 in this competition, finishing second behind Real Madrid but ahead of Liverpool and Ludogorets despite winning just two matches out of six. Derlis Gonzalez with two goals is their top scorer in the competition, while things are going well for them back home, leading the Swiss Super League by 8 points.
Barcelona
Despite losing their first match to PSG, Barcelona finished first in the group, ahead of the French champions, Ajax and APOEL. Lionel Messi with eight goals in six matches is their leading scorer. Barcelona are currently second in the Spanish La Liga, two points behind Real Madrid.
Bayern Munich
Finished first without too many problems, with five wins in six matches, ahead of Manchester City, AS Roma and CSKA Moscow. Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze each scored three goals to lead the club in the group stage, while things are going quite swimmingly in the Bundesliga as well, already opening a 7-point lead from second place.
Chelsea
A comfortable road for Chelsea to finish first in their group, ahead of Schalke, Sporting and Maribor. Five different players scored two goals for them in the competition, which went well along with their Premier League form, currently first with a 3-point lead over Manchester City.
Dortmund
An awful domestic season for Dortmund, only 14th so far in the Bundesliga. In Europe? Finishing first ahead of Arsenal, Galatasaray and Anderlecht. Ciro Immobile with four goals is their top scorer in the competition.
Juventus
The Italian champions of the last three seasons finished second in Group A behind Atletico Madrid but ahead of Olympiakos and Malmo, finding themselves back in the round of 16 after last year’s debacle. Carlos Tevez with three goals was their top scorer in the group stage. Juve are leading the Italian Series A (again), three points ahead of Roma.
Leverkusen
Another trip to the round of 16 to one of the more consistent club in Germany outside of Bayern Munich. They finished second in their group, behind Monaco but ahead of Zenit and Benfica. Son Heung-Min with three goals is their top scorer. They are fourth in the Bundesliga, 13 points behind the league leaders already.
Manchester City
Barely made it in, but for the second straight season, they’re in the knockout stage, needing a last day win over Roma to come through, finishing above them and CSKA Moscow. Sergio Aguero with five goals is their top scorer. In the league, the defending Premier League champions are currently three points behind Chelsea, sitting in second place.
Monaco
Only four goals scored by the Ligue 1 team, but conceded just one as well, finishing ahead of Leverkusen, Zenit and Benfica in a difficult and unattractive group. Four different players scored a single goal for the club, currently in 7th place in the French league.
Porto
Things are going well for Porto again, cruising through the group stage with only two points dropped, finishing ahead of Shakhtar, BATE and Bilbao. Jackson Martinez led the scoring with five goals, and his club is currently in second place behind Benfica (three points behind) in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
PSG
Finished second in the group stage behind Barcelona, ahead of Ajax and APOEL. Edinson Cavani with five goals is their top scorer of the group stage, as PSG are surprisingly sitting in second place at the moment in France, one point behind Marseille.
Real Madrid
The defending European champions had no problem qualifying from Group B, winning all of their matches, led by Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, each of them scoring five goals. Things are going well for Real Madrid at home as well, leading the La Liga, two points clear of Barcelona.
Schalke 04
Finished second in the group stage behind Chelsea, ahead of Sporting and Maribor. The German side were led by Klaas Jan-Huntelaar with three goals in the group stage, while they’re doing OK in the Bundesliga, currently in fifth place after a shocking start.
