The quest of getting past Michael Jordan is over for Kobe Bryant, passing him on the all-time scoring list, which puts him on the cross hairs for the meme makers, for both good and bad reasons.

Bryant needed just nine points to get past Jordan in a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but ended up scoring 26, putting him 18 past Michael Jordan. Now it’s Karl Malone that he’s coming after, but that’s going to take him a very long time.

Bryant is playing for the worst Lakers team he has ever been on, excluding the one from last season, which doesn’t really count because he played in just six of those games. But the team isn’t what Bryant cares about. Not wins that are hard to come by, not the rings that are out of reach for him.

It was important for him to keep getting the money a superstar in the NBA gets, and putting himself in a situation that allows him to keep on scoring points in order to come as close as possible to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. If his body allows him to keep playing for that long, there’s no doubt he’ll try to break that record too.
