As of now, it’s not a question of if Paul Chryst will leave Pittsburgh for the head coaching job at Wisconsin, but when will it be announced.

Chryst has already arrived at Madison and seems to be hours away from being officially introduced as the man who replaced Gary Andersen, who was there for only two years before surprising everyone and taking the Oregon State vacancy, moving back to the West Coast.

Chryst, 49, was the head coach of Pittsburgh in the last three seasons, amassing an unimpressive 19-19 record, although he did take the Panthers to a bowl game three times. Chryst was a quarterback at Wisconsin from 1986 to 1988 and through his 25-year coaching career, he has spent time there as a Tight End coach (2002) and the offensive coordinator (2005-2011). The job was waiting for him, and he was waiting for it to become available.

Unlike Andersen who came from Utah State, and just like Bert Bielema who left Wisconsin for the Arkansas job, Chryst is a Wisconsin man, actually born in Madison. He worked under the current athletic director, Barry Alvarez, and should be carrying on with the tradition of an offense built on running the ball and not much else unless there’s some rare star emerging at quarterback. Maybe they can get someone to transfer.

For now, it seems that it’s about whether or not Chryst will go after Bob Bostad who is currently the offensive line coach for the Tennessee Titans. Bostad worked with Chryst at Wisconsin from 2006 to 2011 as tight ends, offensive line and running game coordinator. According to reports within the state, Bostad has already told friends he’d love to come back to Wisconsin and work with his friends, missing coaching college players after two years with the pros.
