The Bowl season continues with its third day of action as two games on two sides of the country too place. Navy finished a very good season in the Poinsettia Bowl with a dramatic win against San Diego State while Marshall have an even better finish and year, dominating Northern Illinois in the first ever Boca Raton Bowl.
Boca Raton Bowl: The first ever Boca Raton bowl game ended with Marshall giving themselves a little pat on the back for a great season, although that one loss did hurt the overall national impression. They beat Northern Illinois 52-23 to make it a 13-1 season as quarterback Rakeem Cato tied the NCAA mark for touchdown passes on his final college game, throwing for three and running for two more, and teammate Tommy Shuler, who caught one of the touchdown throws, ends his college career with a new Conference USA record for career receptions at 322.
Poinsettia Bowl: A very different affair out West, ending on the difference field goal kickers made. Navy beat San Diego State 17-16 after Donny Hageman missed from 34 yards and only 20 seconds left on the clock. Navy took the lead a minute earlier through Austin Grebe, nailing it from 24 yards. Navy threw the ball just seven times for 17 yards but rushed for 254, finishing the season at 8-5 following this win and the demolition of Army, a second straight bowl game win under Ken Niumatalolo.
