College Football – Day 9 Bowl Game Scores

TCU beat Ole Miss

On the final day of 2014 the SEC continues to take a pounding in the bowl games as TCU crushed Ole Miss in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl and Georgia Tech easily handled Mississippi State at the Capital One Orange Bowl. Boise State pulled off another big bowl game for them, beating Arizona at the Vizio Fiesta Bowl.

Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl: Some regarded this as a special, breakout season for Ole Miss. But as it ends with four losses and a humiliating blow, losing 42-3 to TCU who made it quite clear what they think of being left out of the playoff, casts a shadow of the work Hugh Freeze has done this season, and over the whole “SEC-dominance” thing. Trevone Boykin threw three touchdown passes (intercepted three times as well), but the big damage was caused by Bo Wallace looking terrible and throwing three interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown.

Capital One Orange Bowl: A huge running game for Georgia Tech yielded 452 rushing yards and six touchdowns, en route to a 49-34 win over Mississippi State, completely blown away in the third quarter which made their garbage time points in the fourth meaningless. It was a big game for Dak Prescott, but his defense failed him once again, and a team that led the rankings for a big chunk of the season found itself stumbling at the end of the season, losing in every big game they had away from home.

Vizio Fiesta Bowl: Boise State in a big bowl game always means some trick plays like the statue of liberty touchdown run by Jay Ajayi, who ran for two more in a very good game for him. Boise State also scored on an interception return and held Arizona to only three points in the final quarter, not scoring any points themselves, holding on to a 38-30 victory in a venue they’re quite used to dominating by now, despite falling off a bit from their usual BCS buster role.
