Will Arsenal make a splash in the January transfer window? If they are planning on it, it seems that Isco of Real Madrid is their number one target, although that depends on the rumor source you choose to follow.
The Daily Star suggest that although it does seem like a desperate attempt, the Gunners will attempt to sign another Real Madrid attacking midfielder, although their Mesut Ozil experiment hasn’t been going so well up to this point, starting off with a bang but quickly turning into an expensive disappointment instead of a player to turn around the fortunes of the club.
Isco is valued at around €35 million, but he’s also still before his 23rd birthday. He’s been mostly featuring in the lineup for Real Madrid this season, overall appearing 15 times in the league for the club, scoring two goals and adding five assists.
But is Isco the player they need? Another attacking midfielder? He can play in a more central role or even in a wider position if necessary, but Arsenal have been saturated by that kind of player, and even if Isco is slightly better than others at these positions, will spending an insane amount of money on him be the thing that takes the club into the Champions League and beyond?
It’s worth mentioning that Isco, during his teenage years, was a transfer target for Arsenal and Manchester United, but eventually it was Real Madrid that got their hands on him for €30 million. They’re not likely to part with him for anything less than €40 million, and some suggest the price could be even higher. Arsenal can pay the price, but should they? He wouldn’t be that much of an upgrade over what they have right now.
