Match Highlights – Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid

Wow Fernando Torres

The 2-2 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu means Atletico Madrid go through to the quarterfinals at the expense of Real Madrid with a 4-2 aggregate victory, but Fernando Torres being the player to score the two goals is the biggest thing to take away from this game.

The striker who began his career with the current defending Spanish champions and has since been a success at Liverpool followed by failures at Chelsea and AC Milan recently arrived to his original club, trying to save something of his declining career.

He played against Barcelona in the league loss, and got the start at the Bernabeu, needing less than two minutes to make Diego Simeone happy about his decision, as Antoine Griezmann, Atletico’s best player on the pitch, took care of most of the work, setting up Torres for the opening goal.

Real Madrid bounced back with Sergio Ramos scoring the equalizer, but once again the combination of Griezmann and Torres ruined any chance of a comeback.

Once again the French international set up the goal, making the most of a foolish turnover in the middle of the park, setting up Torres for an up close shot. He fooled Pepe into sliding and catching air, and then managed to put the ball through Keylor Navas, who could have done better in that situation.

Real Madrid might be slowing down which means good news for Barcelona, but they’d prefer these dropped “points” to be league occurrences. Atleti once again prove to be a thorn in Real’s side with tight tactics and disciplined defending, but have also revealed something of an ace up their sleeve, unless this is the only good thing Torres will do for them in 2015.
