Not a lot of offense on the first weekend of the 2015 Six Nations tournament, standing as a preparation for the World Cup, as England came from behind to produce a huge win over Wales, France needed penalties to get through a stubborn Scotland side and Ireland weren’t as impressive as the scoreline suggests in their victory over Italy.
Wales 16 England 21: In recent years it’s been Wales that have stood in the way of England winning the tournament. Despite jumping to a 10-0 lead after only 10 minutes with a Rhys Webb try, England started clawing their way back with an Anthony Watson try. Wales built up their lead to 16-8 at the half, but England played one of their best 40-minute segments in quite a while, which included a Jonathan Joseph try and two George Ford penalties.
Italy 3 Ireland 26: Except for a Kelly Haimona penalty, Italy did nothing as they seem to be hitting a new low despite this being a World Cup year. The ever changing Irish team didn’t have too many moments of brilliance, but a rush of tries in the second half with Conor Murray and Tommy O’Donnell putting them well enough in front so the Italian side couldn’t even hope to come back from.
France 15 Scotland 8: Scotland scored the only try of the match just before half time (Dougie Fife), but France, with five penalties by Camille Lopez, took what they could get and had a rare promising start to their Six Nations campaign, something that hasn’t happened too much lately.
