The nine point gap at the top of the Serie A remains, which makes Juventus the happier side after a 1-1 draw against AS Roma in Rome, although the hosts won’t be too discouraged after playing with 10 men for the final 30 minutes and getting closer to securing the second spot.
The match wasn’t a good one, just like Juventus had hoped it’d be. After Torosidis was sent off in the 62nd minute, Carlos Tevez carried on with his extremely impressive scoring run with a beautiful free kick to put Juventus in front.
From that moment everything changed, as in Juventus stopped trying to ruin the match and simply defended, whiel Roma sent everything they had at Gianluigi Buffon. Eventually, it was Seydou Keita with a header off of a cross from Alessandro Florenzi that equalized in the 77th minute.
The final minutes was mostly about Juventus frustrating their rivals by trying to waste as much time as possible. The championship is almost in their grasp. Being a more aggressive and hungry team, a little bit less cynical and cautious, might have finished and completed the mission for good.
Still, despite the theoretical chances, Roma are aware it’s not going to happen once again. However, finishing second isn’t such a bad thing, and getting some distance between them and Napoli isn’t such a bad thing, especially when they’re down with 10 men against the defending and future champions.
