For the first time since 2003, Juventus are in the Champions League final following a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real Madrid, going through with a 3-2 aggregate win.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for the home side with a penalty kick that as usual his team wasn’t deserving (James Rodriguez diving after bumping into Georgio Chiellini), but despite the 23rd minute goal, Real Madrid were never really looking like a team that is clearly better than their opponents.
It took Juventus time to settle in, hoping they won’t have to take the initiative, but they found out Real Madrid aren’t that scary, as Paul Pogba started touching the ball a lot more, Claudio Marchisio got a lot more involved and Real Madrid struggled keeping up with both Carlos Tevez and Alvaro Morata.
Finally, the neglected former prodigy got his revenge, even though he didn’t celebrate. Morata is the next in line of many strikers to take advantage of a horrible Real Madrid defense, equalizing in the 59th minute, left wide open in the middle of the box.
Real Madrid might have been the team that had more of the ball in the final 30 minutes, but Juventus were the more dangerous team, forcing Iker Casillas to make two fantastic saves, while Gianluigi Buffon mostly saw balls sailing wide off the mark, especially from Gareth Bale and a little bit from Cristiano Ronaldo.
Once again, there won’t be a repeat of a Champions League titleist. Real Madrid were slightly lucky to win it last season. They’re not a historic team, with Cristiano Ronaldo, once again showing that when he doesn’t score, he hardly has anything to give. No Clasico in the final, but the two best teams in the semifinals see justice done, making it the first ever Juventus-Barcelona Champions League final.
