As the latest crop of NBA Finals memes clearly show, it’s almost over; LeBron James might be doing incredible things, but his Cleveland Cavaliers aren’t, while Stephen Curry is hitting his prime form, leading the Golden State Warriors towards a historic title.
James had another huge performance. Heck, maybe he’ll be the first Finals MVP from the losing team since Jerry West almost 50 years ago, but if the Warriors do it, it’ll probably go to Curry. He wasn’t great in all the games, but he’s been good enough, while his teammates have certainly lived up to their reputation.
The Cavaliers? James doesn’t have much to work with. A bit of the limited Tristan Thompson, some Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith, a little bit of Matthew Dellavedova, but that’s it. No Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love might make the effort more heroic, but it is a bit too difficult to keep up with the best team in the league and do it without two of your top 3 players.
The Warriors need one more victory with their 3-2 lead. It’s more than likely that they’ll get it, especially if they keep shooting at 40% from beyond the arc and taking over the fourth quarter, which has been the case in pretty much every game in this series.
