Copa America – Day 7 Predictions (Brazil vs Colombia)

We’re back to one match a day as we complete the first week of Copa America matches, with the best Group C has to offer as, Brazil facing Colombia.

After winning (barely) their first match, Brazil are in an excellent position to clinch their quarterfinals ticket. No one has won their first two matches in the tournament so far, including Argentina (4 points) and the hosts Chile (4 points as well). Not that finishing out of the top 2 or even 3 was ever a worry, but you never know in these kind of set ups.

Colombia didn’t play very well in their stunning loss to Venezuela. Despite the big names, it seemed that the summer vacation is more on the minds of some players. Radamel Falcao might still be the big name on this team but clearly, his poor form during the season means he should be sitting on the bench, while Colombia find a different combination of strikers or play with just one ahead of James Rodriguez and the others.

Brazil weren’t great against Peru, but unlike Colombia, let the difference in quality and talent show. Neymar is in fantastic form, but has to be wondering about the knee in the back from last year, when Brazil beating Colombia in the quarterfinals also ended his World Cup with a scary yet not so serious injury. Maybe that will help raise the tension and aggression levels in a match that’s already very important to Colombia, who can’t afford to lose another one.

Argentina, with a 1-0 over Uruguay thanks to a Sergio Aguero goal in another poor match, are almost clear in the quarterfinals and sit atop the group. Paraguay also won 1-0 thanks to one of the most hilarious own goals we’ve seen in quite some time. Argentina shouldn’t be worried because the weak Jamaica are their next opponents. Uruguay might not even need a win to qualify, but 4 points should do the trick.
